2019 Volkswagen Passat Performance Review
Under the hood of the 2019 VW Passat you’ll find a hard-working 2.0L TSI® turbo I-4 engine that delivers 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. To help it manage all that power, it includes an intercooler that forces cool air straight into the engine. This also helps to optimize performance.
The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® and Sport mode. This means you’ll get the efficient performance of an automatic transmission, as well as the option to take control with available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Switching into Sport mode will also give you the added dynamics of quicker acceleration and more responsive steering.
All these components work together to help you achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 MPG city and 36 MPG highway.1
VW Passat Interior
When you climb inside the cabin of the VW Passat, you’ll find a spacious and streamlined interior with enough seating for five passengers and a trunk capacity of 15.9 cubic feet.
You can take your seat behind the wheel and use the 8-way power driver’s seat to find your ideal position for maximum comfort and visibility.
In the center stack, you’ll find either a Composition Media 6.3-inch touchscreen sound system or the available Discover Media 6.3-inch touchscreen navigation system. Whichever system you choose to suit your needs, you’ll have the benefit of standard Bluetooth® wireless technology. This integrates your smartphone’s phone calling and music streaming capabilities with your infotainment system.
With steering wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth® connectivity means you can make phone calls and stream music without taking your hands off the wheel.
Safety Technology and the Volkswagen Passat
Like most car shoppers, you’re probably looking for a vehicle that can help you get where you’re going as safely as possible. The VW Passat can help with that. It has several standard safety technology features you can use to be more aware of your surroundings, including:
- Front Assist
- Blind Spot Monitor
- Rear Traffic Alert
The Front Assist system includes Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking. These two systems work together to issue a warning if there’s a potential collision up ahead. It can also automatically hit the brakes for you to try to avoid an impact.
In addition to the standard features, there’s also available safety technology, like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist.
Lane Assist provides an audible warning if you accidentally drift from your intended lane of travel. It can also apply gentle steering to help you get back in line.
